How do I subscribe to Max?

Sign up on your device

Choose how you'd like to sign up:

Max.com

Are you a new or returning Max (or HBO Max) subscriber?

New subscriber
  1. Go to auth.max.com/product.
  2. Choose a subscription plan and billing period, then continue.
  3. Complete the account form and choose Create Account. You'll sign in with this info.
    Check your email and password message?
  4. Add your payment method and start your subscription.
    Your bank may require you to verify your identity with 3D-Secure before authorizing the transaction. If you have trouble with 3D-Secure, please contact your bank.
  5. Choose Start Streaming and you're ready to watch Max.

Once you subscribe, you can sign in and stream Max on any supported device. Your subscription will continue until you cancel it.

Returning subscriber
  1. Go to max.com and sign in with your Max (or HBO Max) account. Can't sign in?
  2. Choose Start Streaming (if available).
  3. On the Welcome Back screen, choose Sign Up Now.
  4. Choose a subscription plan and billing period, then continue.
  5. Add your payment method and start your subscription.
    Your bank may require you to verify your identity with 3D-Secure before authorizing the transaction. If you have trouble with 3D-Secure, please contact your bank.
  6. Choose Start Streaming and you're ready to watch Max.

Once you subscribe, you can sign in and stream Max on any supported device. Your subscription will continue until you cancel it.

Android, Apple, or Amazon device

Are you a new or returning Max (or HBO Max) subscriber?

Note Subscriptions through Amazon are not available in all countries. If you can't subscribe via the Amazon Appstore, you can sign up at max.com.

New subscriber

  2. Choose a subscription plan and billing period, then continue.
  3. Complete the account form and choose Create Account. You'll sign in with this info.

  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to subscribe.

Sign up through a provider

Subscription plans vary by provider. For a complete list of providers, go to Max providers.

Internet, mobile, or TV provider

Contact your internet, mobile, or TV provider to sign up for Max. For a list of providers, go to Max providers.

Once you've signed up for Max, download the Max app and Activate your Max subscription.

Troubleshooting

'Check your email address and password' message

If you get this message, there may already be a Max (or HBO Max) account with the email address you entered.

In this case, do one of the following:

  • Sign in. Sign in using the email address you entered on the 'Create Your Account' screen. If you have trouble signing in, try resetting your password.
  • Enter another email address. Enter a different email address for your Max account.

If you're still having trouble subscribing, contact us.

Code not working?

If the 6-character code isn't working, here are some things to try:

  • Try using a different browser (Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, or Safari).
  • Try using a private or incognito browser window.
  • Enter the code from your TV on your computer instead of your phone (or vice versa).
  • Try signing up on a different device.
Can't stream after resubscribing?

Try signing out and then back in again. Here's how:

  1. In Max, do one of the following:
    • Phone, tablet, or computer: Choose your profile and then choose Sign Out.
    • TV device: Choose the Settings icon cog (lower left) and then Sign Out.
  2. Sign in to Max and try to watch something.

If this doesn't help, go to Fix a Max subscription issue.

I'm getting a payment error

If you're signing up at max.com, go to Can't add a payment method.

If you're signing up through the Max app, check with your app store to find out which payment methods are accepted. Not all payment methods are accepted for recurring subscriptions.

If you're signing up through another provider, check with them to find out what payment methods they accept.

Can't solve the Captcha puzzle?

Sometimes we'll ask you to solve a puzzle to help keep your account secure. If you're having trouble with the Captcha puzzle challenge, choose Restart to start the challenge over.

You can also choose Audio Challenge to secure your account another way.

'That email address can’t be used' message

If you get this message, you may have signed up for a Max (or HBO Max) account in another country or region with the email address you entered. To fix this issue, do one of the following:

Enter another email address. Enter a different email address for your Max account.

Change your account email. Sign in at max.com/account and change your email to a different email address. Then, go back to the Create Your Account screen and enter your original email address.
