Download Max shows and movies
If you have the Max Standard or Premium plan, you can download Max shows and movies on the following mobile devices and watch them when you're offline:
- Apple iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch
- Android phone and tablet
- Amazon Fire tablet
Here's the number of downloads your account can have at one time (across all devices) for each subscription plan.

Certain content may have unique download limits or restrictions.
What you need:
- A Standard or Premium plan
- An internet connection (a strong Wi-Fi connection is best)
- Phone or tablet with enough storage space
Here's how to download a show or movie:
- Sign in to Max on your phone or tablet. Can't sign in?
- Find something to download. Titles that can be downloaded have a Download icon
beside the movie or episode description. Can't find the Download icon?
- To check which languages are available for a title, choose the Play button and then choose the Audio and Subtitles icon
in the video player. Select your preferred language for Subtitles and Audio, then go back to the content description screen.
- Choose the Download icon
for the title. The Download icon updates to show you the download progress. To cancel a download, choose the Download progress icon
and then Cancel.
Downloads are stored on your phone or tablet's internal storage (downloads can't be saved to an SD card).
What subtitles and audio language are downloaded?
Max downloads include the original audio track, subtitles and audio in the language you last selected in Max (if available), and English closed captions.
For example, if you start watching an episode with Spanish audio and subtitles and then download the episode, Max will download Spanish audio and subtitles (as well as English).

- In Max, choose the Downloads icon

If the current profile is an Adult profile, you'll find downloads for each profile on your device. Kids profiles can only watch shows and movies downloaded by their profile. - Choose the download that you want to watch.
Once you start watching a download, you have 48 hours to finish watching it before it expires. Unwatched downloads expire after 30 days. Once expired, you can renew or delete the download.

Downloads Q&A
When you travel to another country, you can watch shows and movies that you've already downloaded. Here's how:
- Before you travel, download shows and movies on your phone or tablet.
- Make sure you're signed in to Max on the device with your downloads.
- While traveling, open Max and choose the Downloads icon
.
- Choose the download you want to watch.
You can stream and download shows and movies in countries and regions where Max is available. For more info, go to Where is Max available?
When a download expires, you'll need to renew it before you can watch it. Here's how:
- In Max, choose the Downloads icon
.
- Choose the Expired download icon
on the download you want to renew.
- Choose Renew Download (an internet connection is needed to renew a download).

Things to know
- Unwatched downloads expire 30 days after downloading (or when a show or movie leaves Max).
- Once you start watching a download, you have 48 hours to finish watching it before it expires.
- You can renew a download multiple times.
- In Max, choose the Downloads icon
.
- Then, do one of the following:
- Choose the Download complete icon
beside a download and then choose Delete Download.
- Choose the series name, the Edit button, choose the X beside the episode(s) you want to delete, and then choose Done.
- Choose the Download complete icon
To change the video quality of downloads:
- In Max, choose your profile.
- Choose App Settings > Download Settings > Video Quality.
- Choose a download quality: Good, Better, or Best (the default setting is Good).
This setting applies to all profiles on your phone or tablet.
Because downloads use a large amount of data, downloading is limited to Wi-Fi connections by default. To allow downloads over a cellular network:
- In Max, choose your profile.
- Choose App Settings > Download Settings.
- Turn off Download over Wi-Fi only.
This setting applies to all profiles on your phone or tablet.
Troubleshooting
If you can’t find the download icon for an episode or movie, there could be a few different reasons:
- The device you're using doesn't support downloads. Downloads are only available on the following phones and tablets:
- Apple iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch
- Most Android phones and tablets
- Amazon Fire tablet
You can't download shows or movies on a computer or TV device.
- Your Max plan doesn't support downloads (only the Standard and Premium plans support downloads). Which plan do I have?
- The episode or movie isn't available for download. Select episodes and movies aren't available to download on Max.
First, make sure the download hasn't expired (if expired, connect to the internet and renew the download).
Next, try the following steps on your phone or tablet:
- Make sure you're signed in.
- Close the Max app.
- Turn on Airplane mode.
- Turn off Wi-Fi.
- Open Max and try playing a download.
If this doesn't help and you're using an Android phone or tablet, try clearing the Max cache. Here's how:
- On your Android phone or tablet, open Settings.
- Choose Search and type Max.
- Select Max from the search results.
- Choose Storage & cache or Storage.
- Choose Clear cache.
- Open Max, sign in, and try playing a download.
To renew a download you need to be:
- Located in a country where Max is available
- Located in a country where the content is available
- Signed in to Max
- Connected to the internet
If a title is no longer available on Max, you can't renew the download. In Max, use search to find out if a title is available.
If you're using a cellular data connection, connect to a wireless network and start the download over again.
If this doesn’t help, go to Troubleshoot the Max app and try the troubleshooting steps.
This message means your account has reached the maximum number of downloads for your subscription plan across all phones and tablets. To fix this, do the following:
- First, find out which subscription plan you have. Which plan do I have?
If you have the Standard plan, your account can have 30 downloads at one time across all phones and tablets in your household. If you have the Premium plan, your account can have 100 downloads at one time across all phones and tablets in your household. - Check the number of downloads on mobile devices signed in to your account. For a list of phones and tablets signed in to your account, go to Manage your devices.
'Episode Limit Reached' message
Some series have a lower limit downloaded episodes (at one time across all mobile devices.) Check if other phones and tablets in your household have episodes from the same series. For a list of devices signed in to your account, go to Manage your devices.
'Movie Limit Reached' message
The Standard and Premium plans have a limit of 30 downloaded movies (at one time across all mobile devices). If your current device doesn't have 30 downloaded movies, other phones and tablets in your household may have downloaded movies. For a list of devices signed in to your account, go to Manage your devices.
This message means there isn't enough space to download the selected titles on your device. If you get this message, check your available storage space and try downloading a single episode.
To find your available storage space:
- Open Max on your phone or tablet, choose your profile, then App Settings > Download Settings. For more detailed info, open Settings on your iOS or Android phone or tablet and search for Storage.
- The amount of storage space needed to download a title depends on the length and the video quality. For example, an hour-long download with Good video quality can take 1-2 GB of storage.
