HBO Max is now Max. Here's what you need to know:

How do I update to Max?

On devices where you have the HBO Max app, go to the app store on your device, search for Max, and choose the download option.

If you need help updating to Max, go to Update HBO Max to Max.

Once you've installed Max, you can delete the HBO Max app from your device.

How is Max different from HBO Max?

Max includes a newly expanded library across true crime, documentaries, reality, food, family and home, plus live sports events:

  • The best of HBO Max: HBO series and movies, Max Originals, and select series and movies from Warner Bros., the DC Universe, Cartoon Network, Looney Tunes, Adult Swim, and more.
  • Discovery favorites: The best real-life shows, and more.

Here are some of the changes we made:

  • Enhanced personalization and improved search

  • Easier to sign in and use
  • Profile PIN for Adult and Kids profiles
  • New Hubs and genres
How do I get Max?
Current HBO Max subscribers

Current HBO Max subscribers have access to Max.

On devices where you have HBO Max installed, go to the app store on your device, search for Max, and choose the download option. Once you've installed Max, you can delete the HBO Max app.

If you need help updating to Max, go to Update HBO Max to Max.

How do I sign in to Max?

Choose Sign In and enter your HBO Max email and password.

If you subscribed to HBO Max in the past:

If you get HBO with your internet, mobile, or TV package, you may have access to Max at no extra cost. For more info, go to Do I already have access to Max?

New subscribers

Already have an HBO Max account? Sign in to Max with your HBO Max email and password and then choose Renew subscription. For more info, go to Resubscribe to Max.

What devices can I stream on?

Max is available on many different devices. To find out which devices, go to Max supported devices.

Apple iOS device

For a better streaming experience, update your iPhone or iPad software to the latest version. Here's how:

  • Open Settings on your Apple device, then choose General > Software Update. For more information, go to Apple's Update your iPhone or iPad article.
  • If you can't update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch to iOS 14 or later, try switching to a different supported device for a better experience.
Do my HBO Max profiles and settings transfer?

Your HBO Max profiles, watch history, and your settings (including parental controls) are available in Max.

There are two things that don't transfer to Max:

  • HBO Max downloads: You'll need to download your shows and movies again with Max.
  • Custom profile pictures: If you had a custom profile picture in HBO Max, you'll see a generic profile icon in Max (Max doesn't support custom profile photos). If you'd like to choose a different profile avatar, go to Add and manage Max profiles.

You can add a Profile PIN to any profile to keep other people in your household from using your profile. For more info, go to Add a Profile PIN.

Each of your profiles has a My Stuff area with your Continue Watching list and My List.

Are there any price changes?

If you subscribed to HBO Max through us or an app store, your subscription price won't change for at least 60 days after the launch of Max on May 21, 2024. On your next renewal date on or after July 23, your price will change to the then-current Standard plan price. We'll let you know more details closer to the change.

If you subscribed to HBO Max through an internet, mobile, or TV provider, your provider will let you know of any price or plan changes.

Are there any plan changes?

If you subscribed to HBO Max through an app store or directly through us (at HBOMax.com), you'll keep your current plan features and functionality. We'll let you know in advance if we need to make changes to your plan features in the future.

If you subscribed to HBO Max through an internet, mobile, or TV provider, your provider will let you know of any plan changes.

We also introduced 3 new base plans:

    • Stream on 2 devices at once
    • Full HD 1080 resolution
    • Full coverage of the Olympic Games Paris 2024
  • Standard:
    • Stream on 2 devices at once
    • Full HD 1080 resolution
    • Full coverage of the Olympic Games Paris 2024
    • Up to 30 offline downloads
  • Premium:
    • Stream on 4 devices at once
    • Stream in 4K UHD and Dolby Atmos (as available)
    • Full coverage of the Olympic Games Paris 2024
    • Up to 100 offline downloads (limits apply)

Channels and live content where included in any plan will contain ads. Not all content will be available on Basic with Ads. On-demand content may include sponsorship and product placement.

And we introduced a new Sports Add-On that you can add to any base plan:

  • Sports Add-On* (base plan required):
    • Stream Eurosport 1 and Eurosport 2
    • 2024 live cycling, tennis, and more
    • Includes the 2024 Roland-Garros and Tour de France

*Limited to 2 of your available base plan streams

Apple-billed subscriber? If you want to watch sports on Max, you can choose the Premium & Sports plan.

Where is Max available?

Max is currently available in select European countries and territories, Latin America, the Caribbean, and the United States. We plan to launch Max in more countries in 2024.

Before traveling to another country where Max isn't available, be sure to download shows and movies.

Can I watch the Olympic Games Paris 2024 on Max?

Yes. The Olympic Games Paris 2024 will be included with every Max base plan.
