Sign in to Max

Already have a Max (or HBO Max) account with an email and password? Great! Here's how to sign in.

Internet, mobile, or TV provider?
If you get Max (or HBO) through an internet, mobile, or TV provider, you need to Connect your provider account before signing in to Max.

Choose the device you're using:

Here's how to sign in to the Max app:

  1. Open Max and choose Sign In.
    Already signed in? Choose your profile (upper right) and then Sign Out.
  2. Choose Sign In.
    Or if you get Max (or HBO) through an internet, mobile, or TV provider, choose Connect and follow the Connect your provider steps.
  3. Enter your Max (or HBO Max) account email and password, then choose Sign In.
    Forgot password? Go to Reset your password.
  4. Choose who's watching and you're ready to stream.

Note Your HBO Max profiles, watch history, and settings are available in Max.

Need to switch accounts? To sign in to a different Max account, choose your profile (upper right) and then Sign Out. Once signed out, choose Sign In.

Troubleshooting

'Email or password doesn't look right' message

If you get this message, try resetting your password. Here's how:

  1. On the sign-in screen, choose Forgot Password?
  2. Enter your Max (or HBO Max) account email and choose Submit. Forgot your account email?
  3. Check your inbox for a Max Password Reset email. This email should arrive within a few minutes.
  4. Open the most recent Password Reset email and choose Reset Your Password.
  5. Enter a new password and then choose Create Password.

Now, sign in with your account email and new password.

No password reset email?
If you don't get a Max Password Reset email, go to Can't reset password.
'Can't verify your subscription' message

If you subscribed to Max through an app store or Max.com, go to Fix a subscription issue.

Subscribed through an internet, mobile, or TV provider? Make sure Max is included with your internet, mobile, or TV package. To do this, sign in to your provider account on your provider's website and make sure Max is included. For more info, go to Can't connect your provider.

'{ProviderName} needs you to sign in again' message

You may need to periodically sign in to your internet, mobile, or TV provider account that includes access to Max. Here's how:

  1. When you're prompted to sign in again, choose Connect Your Provider.
  2. Choose or search for the company you get Max (or HBO) through.
  3. On your provider's sign-in screen, enter your provider account info and sign in.

Welcome back message. What should I do?

Make sure your Max account has an active Max subscription. For help with this, go to Fix a Max subscription issue.

'Your device time is out of sync' error

If you get a 'Your device time is out of sync' error on your phone or tablet, make sure the date and time are correct on your device. For help, go to Google's Set date & time article or Apple's iPhone: Change time or iPad: Change time article.

Can't solve the Captcha puzzle?

Sometimes we'll ask you to solve a puzzle to help keep your account secure. If you're having trouble with the Captcha puzzle, choose Restart to try again or Audio Challenge to access your account another way.

If this doesn't help, try signing in on a different device.

Here's how to sign in on your computer:

  1. Go to max.com/login on your computer.
    Already signed in? Choose your profile (upper right) and then Sign Out.
  2. Enter your Max (or HBO Max) account email and password, then choose Sign In.
    Or if you get Max (or HBO) through an internet, mobile, or TV provider, choose the company you get Max through and follow the Connect your provider steps.

  3. Choose who's watching and you're ready to stream.

'Your device time is out of sync' error

If you're getting a 'Your device time is out of sync' error, make sure your computer's date and time are correct. For help, go to Microsoft's How to set your time article or Apple's Change date & time article.

Sometimes we'll ask you to solve a puzzle to help keep your account secure. If you're having trouble with the Captcha puzzle, choose Restart to try again or Audio Challenge to access your account another way.

  1. Install the Max app.
  2. Open Max and choose Sign In.
    Or if you get Max (or HBO) through an internet, mobile, or TV provider, choose Connect Your Provider and follow the Connect your provider steps.
    Already signed in? Choose the Settings icon cog (lower left) (lower left) and then Sign Out.
  3. Now, choose a TV sign-in option:
Use a Code

Sign in on your TV using a code. Here's how:

  1. Stay on the TV screen with the QR code and do one of the following:
    • Open your phone's camera app and point your camera at the QR code on your TV. Then, tap the link that appears on your phone (iPhone or Android QR steps).
      -or-
    • On your phone or computer, go to max.com/signin. Then, enter the 6-digit code from your TV.

  2. Enter your Max (or HBO Max) account email and password, then choose Sign In.
    Forgot password? Go to Reset your password.
  3. On your TV, choose who's watching and you're ready to stream.

TV code not working?

If the 6-digit code isn't working, here are some things to try:

  • Open a private or incognito browser window and then go to max.com/signin.
  • Try signing in another way (e.g. Use Email Address or scan the QR code on your TV).
  • Try using a different supported browser (Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, or Safari).
Use Max Mobile App (on some devices)

Sign in on your TV using the Max mobile app. Here's how:

  1. On the TV sign-in screen, choose Use Max Mobile App (on the left).
    (This option is not available on all TV devices.)
  2. Open the Max app on your phone or tablet.
  3. If you're not signed in, sign in, then close and reopen the Max mobile app.
  4. Choose Allow in the Max mobile app and you'll be signed in on your TV.
  5. On your TV, choose who's watching and you're ready to stream.
Didn't get Allow prompt?

If you didn't get a prompt in the Max mobile app, try the following:

  • Make sure your mobile device and TV device are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Close and reopen the Max mobile app.
  • Try signing in another way (e.g. Use a Code).
Use Email Address

Sign in on your TV using your TV remote. Here's how:

  1. On the TV sign-in screen, choose Use Email Address (on the left).
  2. Enter your Max (or HBO Max) account email and password, then choose Sign In. To open the on-screen keyboard, move the selection to Email Address and press the Select or OK button on your remote.
    Forgot password? Go to Reset your password.
  3. Choose who's watching and you're ready to stream.
