Stream Max with an HDMI cable
The Max app is the easiest way to stream Max on your TV. To find out if there's a Max app available, go to Supported devices (or check the app store on your TV device).
Here are some other ways to stream on your TV:
Stream using an HDMI cable
You can use an HDMI cable to connect your computer, phone, or tablet to your TV.
What you need
- An HDMI 2.0+ cable and possibly an adapter
(e.g., iPhone or iPad: Apple Lightning Digital AV Adapter, Mac or iPad Pro: Apple USB-C Digital AV Adapter) - A TV that supports HDCP 2.1+
To stream on your TV using an HDMI cable:
- Connect an HDMI cable to your phone, tablet, or computer (an adapter may be needed for your phone or tablet).
- Connect the other end of your HDMI cable to your TV.
- Open Max on your phone, tablet, or computer and start watching something.
Troubleshooting
Your setup (devices, cables, adapters, and software drivers) must be HDCP 2.1+ compliant in order to stream Max. If your setup isn't HDCP 2.1+ compliant, you'll get an error when you try to stream something.
Choose the device you're using:
If you're getting the device setup error on your phone or tablet, try updating Max. Here's how:
- Android: Open the Play Store on your Android device and search for Max. If an app update is available choose Update. Installing Max from somewhere other than the official Google Play app store is not supported.
- iOS: Open the App Store on your Apple device and search for Max. If an app update is available choose Update.
- Amazon Fire tablet (Brazil and Mexico only): Open the Amazon Appstore on your Fire tablet and search for Max. If an app update is available, choose Update.
Once updated, try using Max again.
If this doesn't help and you're not using an HDMI cable, go to Troubleshoot the Max app.
Using an HDMI cable? If you're connecting your phone or tablet to your TV, here are some things to try:
- Make sure your HDMI cable and adapter are HDMI 2.0+ compliant.
- Disconnect and reconnect both ends of your HDMI cable.
- Try using another HDMI cable.
- Try using another HDMI port on your TV.
If you're getting the device setup error on your TV or streaming player, try these things:
- Unplug your TV and streaming player (e.g. Roku or Apple TV), wait a minute, and then plug them back in again. Then, open Max and try watching something again.
- Disconnect and reconnect both ends of your HDMI cable.
- Try using another HDMI cable.
- Try reversing the ends of your HDMI cable.
- Try using another HDMI port on your TV.
- Bypass your receiver or stereo equipment and connect your streaming device player directly to your TV.
If you still get the error message, make sure all components of your device setup (including set-top boxes, cables, adapters, TV or monitor, and audio equipment) are HDCP 2.1+ compliant (you'll need HDCP 2.2 to play titles in 4K UHD).
