Can I stream Max while traveling?

You can stream Max when you travel to a country or region where Max (or HBO Max) is available. You can also play shows and movies that you've already downloaded. Your home country is the country where you signed up for Max (or HBO Max).

When you travel to a country in the EEA where Max (or HBO Max) is available:

  • Shows and movies: The selection of shows and movies remains the same as your home country.
  • Downloads: You can play and renew shows and movies that you've already downloaded on your phone or tablet.

When you travel to a country outside the EEA where Max (or HBO Max) is available:

  • Shows and movies: What's available to stream will change based on your physical location. As a result, you may not be able to stream some titles on your Continue Watching and My List when you're in countries outside of the EEA.
  • Ratings: Content ratings are based on your physical location. If you travel to a country with a different content rating system, the parental controls that you set are applied, however, shows and movies may be rated differently.
  • Downloads: You can play shows and movies that you've already downloaded on your phone or tablet.

Before you travel

Now, you can watch your downloads when you travel to any country or region.

Troubleshooting

If you're getting a 'This is Uncharted Territory' or 'Not available in your region yet' message, your IP address might be blocked or is incorrectly identifying your location.

If Max (or HBO Max) is available where you're located, try these steps:

Step 1: Unblock your IP address

Disable your VPN, proxy, or anonymization service so that your IP address is not blocked.

Step 2: Restart your network devices

Try restarting your modem and router. Here's how:

  1. Turn off or unplug the device with Max (or HBO Max).
  2. Unplug the power from your network devices (modem, router, etc.).
  3. Wait 30 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the power to your modem and wait for it to connect to the internet (about a minute).
  5. Reconnect the power to your router and wait for it to connect to the internet.
  6. Turn your device back on, open Max (or HBO Max), and try watching something.
Step 3: Contact your Internet Service Provider

If you've disabled VPNs, proxies, and anonymization services, please contact your Internet Service Provider for help.

Step 4: Contact us

If these steps don't help, gather the following info and contact us.

  • Your Internet Service Provider (ISP)
  • Your IP address (open a browser and type 'what is my IP address' to get this)
